MARQUEE

▶ Your score dies with the ship. Your name doesn't.

SCORE is your life total. It climbs every time you drop a threat or run a seat, anywhere in the galaxy — and hull death snaps it back to zero. That's always been the deal.

What's new: arcade high scores are back. A real multi-entry board keeps your best runs on the plaque, ranked against the field with a percentile next to your name, checkpointed on the way so a bad connection can't rob you of a climb you already earned.

NEW

  • Arcade high scores are back. A multi-entry high-score board — not just a single top line — ranks you against the field with a percentile, and checkpoints your progress on earn, on leaving a galaxy, and on death, so a crash never costs you a run you already banked.

FIXES

  • SCORE finally climbs everywhere. A showstopper: kills in MOSCA, LYRA, and anywhere outside a live VELA run weren't minting SCORE at all — hours of combat, no movement on the number. Every eligible kill counts now, wherever you're flying.

IMPROVEMENTS

  • SCORE is your life total. It follows you across every galaxy and only resets on true hull death — leaving a galaxy alive or disconnecting doesn't touch it.

    · #463 #465 #528 #523
  • MISSION SCORE is this visit's heat. A separate, quieter number under SCORE that tracks what you're earning in the galaxy you're in right now — it clears when you leave, survives death, and never gets mistaken for your life total.

UX

  • Press ? for help. A new overlay spells out the controls and exactly what SCORE, MISSION SCORE, and BOARD each mean, with a standing cue on the flight HUD so you never have to go hunting for it.

PILOT'S NOTE

SCORE has been climbing quietly on the flight HUD for a couple of patches now — your life total, up on every kill and seat run, wiped to zero on hull death. This is the patch where it started earning it, and where it finally means something to keep it alive.

The showstopper first: SCORE was only minting during a live VELA run. Hours of combat in MOSCA or LYRA moved the number exactly zero. Fixed — every eligible kill counts now, in every galaxy that lets you bank one (#522, #524, #525). Alongside the fix, the instrument panel got sorted out for good: SCORE is your life total, always visible, zeroed only by a true hull death; MISSION SCORE is a quieter number underneath it, tracking just this visit to just this galaxy, clearing when you leave (#463, #465, #466, #526, #528, #523).

The marquee is the payoff for all of that: arcade high scores are back. A multi-entry board keeps your best runs on the plaque, ranks you against the field with a percentile, and checkpoints as you go — on earn, on leaving a galaxy, on death — so a crash never erases a climb you already made (#534, #527). Live SCORE still dies with the ship. That’s the game. The plaque is what’s left standing.

One last piece ties it together: a new ? overlay explains the controls and spells out SCORE, MISSION SCORE, and BOARD in plain language, with a standing hint on the HUD so nobody has to guess (#467, #531, #464).
